    Practical questions

    Internal audit questions & answers

What is co-sourced internal audit, and when is it useful?

Co-sourcing adds external expertise or delivery capacity to an existing internal audit function. It can suit a specialist review or a busy audit plan without replacing the organisation’s audit leadership. Agree the review scope, methodology, reporting line and follow-up arrangements before work starts.

How does interim internal audit leadership differ from a focused review?

Interim leadership provides direction and hands-on capacity during a vacancy or transition. A focused review addresses a defined risk or process. The agreed brief should distinguish ongoing leadership responsibilities from the review’s specific evidence and reporting deliverables.

What should we prepare for an initial scoping discussion?

Bring the issue or decision, timing, existing audit plan and any known risk concerns. Identify the sponsor and likely sources of evidence. You do not need a finished brief; access, reporting and responsibilities can be agreed in the discussion.
